About the event

The Borrego Institute for Living Design (BILD) is a cross-disciplinary ecotone where art, design, mythic storytelling, and evolutionary processes connect diverse minds for thriving futures. We work to catalyze a fundamental paradigm shift in all human endeavors—from mechanistic efficiency-driven thinking to adaptable design based on life’s observable patterns and processes—in order to facilitate cultural renewal for greater resilience, adaptability, and expanding opportunity.

Dr. Tamsin Woolley-Barker

Dr. Tamsin Woolley-Barker is an evolutionary biologist, population geneticist, bioanthropologist, and biomimicry pioneer, dedicated to sharing her understanding of the evolutionary process and deep ecological, developmental, and behavioral patterns that result from it, in order to shift the way people fundamentally perceive the world and therefore design for it––beginning with the processes and structures we live and work within––so we can occupy our unique human niche with greater clarity and effectiveness.

Tamsin’s quest for understanding took her from the California coast to the Hawaiian backcountry, the Galapagos islands, and the Amazon headwaters––even a stint in the Bering Sea as the sole woman aboard a crab boat––then on to the African Rift Valley—cradle of humanity. Her study of baboon social structure and speciation is the longest and most extensive genetic study of a wild primate, and an ideal model for understanding human origins and social evolution.

She is the author of TEEMING, an Amazon Bestseller in Organizational Learning, Environmental Economics, Ecology and Animal Behavior; CEO of TEEM Innovation Group, applying principles of social evolution to organizations; Dean of Geoversity’s School of Biocultural Leadership in Panama, and founder of the Borrego Institute for Living Design (the BILD) in the Anza Borrego Desert in San Diego County where she lives. Her Bonobo Revolution initiative focuses on equitable inclusion of diverse voices, particularly women and girls—because humanity’s collective intelligence depends on it.

Her forthcoming books include Underneath with Chris Lopez––a mythic tale of falling in love with our world—and The TEEMING Transformation: How Nature’s Oldest Teams Adapt and Thrive.
